On September 18, Luís Marques Mendes was kind enough to make himself available to have an intimate dinner with a small number of our members.
Luís Marques Mendes holds a Bachelor's Degree in Law from the University of Coimbra and he is currently a lawyer at Abreu Advogados. Additionally, Luís serves as State Advisor to the President of the Republic. He is Chairman of the Advisory Comittee of ULSAM (Health Unit of Alto Minho), Chairman of the General Meeting of Lenitudes, SA, and Chairman of the General Meeting of the charity Misericórdia de Fafe as well as a Member of the Management Comittee of LIDE (Group of Corporate Leaders). Furthermore, Luís is a political commentator for SIC television channel.
Earlier in his career, in 1985, Luís was Secretary General of the Portuguese Republic. In 1996, he became President of the Parliament Committee for Foreign Affairs, Cooperation and Portuguese Communities, before serving as Minister of Parliamentary Affairs and after being President of the Social Democratics Parliamentary Group. In 2002, Luís Marques Mendes was Deputy Prime-Minister and, in 2005, President of the Portuguese Social Democratic Party.
He is author of "Mudar de Vida", published in 2008 (Oficina do Livro) and of "O Estado em que Estamos", published in 2011 (Matéria Prima).
